Privacy

detectdown is built to answer outage questions without tracking people. We use only the data needed to place measurements near you, keep the service from being abused, and understand aggregate product usage.

Analytics

We use first-party Plausible analytics. It is cookieless.

The analytics script is served from detectdown.me at /js/visit.js with the site domain set to detectdown.me. Plausible gives us aggregate page views and product events, without tracking cookies and without personal profiles.

IP addresses

Your IP is used once in memory, then dropped. Never stored, never shared.

When you load a page, your IP address is used for one in-memory geolocation lookup and one short-lived abuse-control counter. The counter is keyed by a hash of the address, not the raw address.

We do not write visitor IP addresses to disk. We do not send them to the third parties who run our measurements. Those networks receive only location targeting derived from the lookup, such as continent, country, city, or ASN.

Trackers

No third-party trackers.

detectdown does not run advertising pixels, social widgets, fingerprinting scripts, or third-party tracking tags. The site uses self-hosted fonts and first-party analytics only.

Geolocation data is GeoLite2, created by MaxMind. The footer on every page carries the attribution required by the GeoLite2 license.
